Skincare While Sleeping?

Have you ever heard an artist say something is “stifling their creativity”? What would you do if you found out your sleeping habits were stifling the way your wrinkle treatments and diets performed? The answer is obvious, make the most out of those 7 hours of nightly Zzz! Beauty Sleep isn’t just something you read about in fairy tales, in fact, it’s been clinically proven that the human body, especially the skin, rejuvenates itself while you’re in deep sleep.

The idea of beauty sleep goes back to when ancient Egyptian kings and queens ensured they had the highest thread count of bed wear, along with the best essential oils, and pretty much anything that could aid them in their quest for ever-lasting beauty. Enter modern day times, adequate sleep is something completely disregarded by almost 61% of Americans! Here are a few tips that will help you look like the queen, or king, you really are!

Satin Pillowcases

Pillowcases made of satin are one of the hidden secrets of anti-aging. They are commonly used for haircare as they minimize breakage and maintain moisture balance, however they also provide benefits for the skin. The smooth satin reduces friction, unlike other types of pillowcase materials such as cotton. In this case, it is the friction which causes wrinkles and sagging skin. *Another tip here would be to never sleep on your face! Lying on your face while you sleep is one of the best ways to create fine-lines and speed aging -not just on your face but also on your neck and chest!

Washing Your Face

It may sound cliché, but many people don’t bother washing their face before sleeping. Cleaning off makeup, eye creams, and other daily applications will keep your skin clean and leave your pores unclogged before the long night ahead. Using water mixed with a bit of pH balancing cleanser will work wonders. Just make sure to reach every inch of your skin to keep the surface even and smooth.

Exfoliate and Moisturize!

Use a granular scrub to rid your beautiful face of any dead skin cells from the daily sun and element exposure your skin endures. Do this 2-3 times a week. Follow up with a nice moisturizer which suits your skin type, whether it be dry, oily, or combination. Try something with hyaluronic acid; a potent water-binding ingredient that hydrates the skin.

Avoid Alcohol and Salt

Alcohol and salt aren’t the best ingredients for your skin as it is. But when you eat salty foods or drink alcohol before you sleep, your body becomes dehydrated which contributes to accelerated aging. When you sleep dehydrated, your body begins collecting natural fluids around the eyes and other areas, leaving your face puffier in the morning. An easy way to avoid the morning puffiness is to drink a tall glass of water before sleep and as soon as you wake up.
